photoshop rookies // color correction

hello!
I'm so sorry for such a delay in the posts, I've had some technical issues involving blogger deleting stuff as well not enough sun in Auckland. But I'm here with a new photoshop post

Before we start, thanks so much for the amazing survey responses (q+a post is coming soon) and I've got so many ideas for new posts. Also I'm pleased to announce that I will be releasing an e-course called simple code (look out for it end of August).

so today is a photoshop post that covers fixing your colours in your blog which is what makes your photos brighter or lighter - something that you guys request all the time. As well as good lighting, I generally always edit my photos.

1 // Histogram

This is step 1 for finding what needs editing on your image
Find your histogram by going to menu > window > histogram

This will break it down for you...
The left side represents the shadows and the right represents the highlights
All the mid tones are in the middle (making sense??)
If a colour is dominating the photo you will see a lot of it in one part of the histogram

2 // Levels

Levels is like curves (see below) but easier for beginners. There is three main sliders, on the left is the shadows slider just like on histogram. Moving it to the right will increase the shadows intensity. On the right is the highlights and moving to the left with increase highlights

In the middle is the mid tones, to the left will brighten photo and to the right will darken the photo.
This is contrast adjustment and the output levels below the original slider will affect the brightness.

Find this window // Menu > Image > Adjustments > Levels

3 // Curves

Curves is very like levels but you make your own points. You click on the line and drag it in a direction of your choice.
Towards the top left corner will brighten things up
Pulling down towards bottom right will darken it

The bottom of the line is the shadows and the top of the line is the highlights
and once again, the middle is the mid tones (all quite simple really)

Find this window // Menu > Image > Adjustments > Levels

So curves is kind of confusing so I thought I would make you a printable sheet that you can use bedside your computer to help you work edits. This should really help you if you are like me and like see things visually not just read or hear them. Download it here on google drive.

keep inspired and have a great day
x harri

P.S. do you guys have anything photoshop related that you want to learn. I've got GIF making in the works xx
