Hello!! Today I have a really exciting DIY for you. A pencil case!! I'm so excited to share with you the first sewing craft on my blog, since getting my sewing machine!! Here we go....
You will need: pins // scissors // dress zip (mine was 20cm) // lining fabric // outside fabric
I used a sewing machine but a needle and thread would still work just as well. Don't let not having a sewing machine put you off, it's really simple.
1 // Cut out a piece of lining fabric the size of the width of the zip. The dress zip already has seam allowance so exact size is good. Cut one more lining and two of the other fabric.
2 // Place lining fabric right side up, place zip on top, also right side up. Finally place outside fabric face down and pin along the top edge.
3 // Sew along pins, taking them out as you go. I suggest a zipper foot but just try and sew as close to the edge as possible if not.
4 // Once done, place other lining fabric underneath (like picture) so that the zip lines up with it.
5 // Place outside fabric on top of zip face down and pin into place again. Sew along the zip.
6 // Lay sewn fabrics out and fold along zip so that outside fabric is face down. and pin along sides and allow seam allowance. Open the zip halfway so that it is easier to turn inside out later on.
Sew together, turn inside out and you have got your pencil case!! Enjoy
xx Harri
