Holy moly - room tour edition 5!
That's right, it's that time again when I tidy my room and remove all my excess 'stuff' so it looks picture perfect and you all pin it to Pinterest and believe that this is my room every day of the year...yeah right!

Have a look at two, three and four before the latest one and see my (constant) changing style!

I'm swooning over my fab new blush pillowcases right now from Cultiver linen. The colour is utterly perfect and it's my main inspiration for my colour scheme currently.

For this room style I followed my own tips for changing your room style and kept everything very simple and neutral coloured. I actually really like having a room that isn't screaming colour but still has accents of my current favourite!

My desk is the same as it's always been but I've kept the decorations to a minimal so I can actually find space to use it. It's exam season in New Zealand so I need all the space I can get! Underneath I have my copper wire baskets and other storage boxes for the storage of unnecessary but also really needed things.

I'm also in love with my latest moodboard. Like seriously crazy about it. I also finally bought some black washi tape and that's been highly useful for my addiction to sticking stuff to my walls!

city 10 edit

Hello!

As promised, here is another style edit. I got a little creative with this layout and I really enjoyed it. Would you guys like to see a video on how I made this??

This little shoot came from Auckland city's industrial feel buildings. I paired the raw concrete backdrops with this beautiful blush sweatshirt and my black jeans for a light (almost summery) look! The auckland waterfront is gorgeous and on one of the wharves is this shed called 'shed 10' (I don't know why) and it's quite old and has a very cool surrounding. The city hosts a lot of events in the building as well since using it when the World Cup was in Auckland!

it's finally the holidays here in New Zealand and they were definitely needed! The sailing season has started and along with exam study (the worst bit),  I've been out sailing again as well as coaching. Summer is finally coming down here and we are ready for it! Though I shot this a few weeks back, it was the first hint of summer coming (It was so hot, I regretted wearing a sweatshirt!) and now it's really happening!

This layout was inspired by one of my current favourite colours - dusky pink, blush or whatever you call it. I did the little scribbles with my wacom tablet and I love how they are just a bit messy and not really planned. I'm looking forward to creating more like this for you soon!

4 tips for changing your room style

Let's start with: I am addicted to changing my room style.
I am also spending too much money as a result of this.

If you scroll back in my Instagram feed you can see my room style has gone from all colours to pink to blue to it's current blush minimalist style. This is kind of costly when I always want new room accessories. SO I've figured out a way to this a better way (and save money) without compromising style. Now, I can share my tips with you!

one / white walls 
This is my number one tip for keeping your room light, clean and crisp. It also means that the walls can be decorated, have things stuck on it and nothing clashes. White painted walls also mean you don't have to commit to a colour theme (something I've found myself useless with!) and everything can be changed. So don't go and paint your room with Pantone's colour of the year...because it's not 2016 forever!

Another way to keep your room timeless is to invest in furniture that is simple and plain. Most of my furniture is currently white or wooden. I have a light wooden trestle table, bedside table and wall shelf. My bed and dresser drawers also match each other. The simplicity of this sort of furniture means it doesn't matter what colours you accessorise with at the time. Anything that is a large purchase - duvet cover, throws, furniture should be as timeless as possible.

three / accessorise on a budget
(three ways to do so) 
- Rather than buy new products, paint your old ones. If you have coloured storage boxes (this or buy timeless white/wooden ones), you can just paint them or cover them with paper when you want to change up your theme. If you are like me, storage boxes will take up a huge part of your room and can add a lot of colour. You can apply this to anything from pencil cups to notebooks.

- Decorate your walls with mood boards. Finding pretty magazine pages that match your current aesthetic or trawling through Pinterest means you can put up amazing wall decor cheaply. You can either make mood boards or frame some prints or pages you find and love. This is a really cheap way of decorating walls that can be changed and can pull a room's aesthetic together

- Op-shop or hit Kmart. If you read this blog you probably love Kikki.K, General Eclectic and all those aesthetic brands that can make or break a room. But if you are on a budget and are wanting to change up your style, you never know what you might find for a bargain at Kmart (I've seen plenty of amazing copper stuff there.). At the same time second hand stores or places like eBay definitely have great room decor for a lower price.

four / don't be afraid to invest a little in a colour you love
If you love something that really ties together or a statement piece in your theme (I spent a lot on those nice pillowcases you see above!) just go for it and enjoy them. You can always store things later as styles come and go. I have a lot of extra room decor things and I currently have a huge drawer just full of other coloured themes and I definitely still use them for blogging and photos. Also, you never know when you are going to change back to a theme!

wellington photo diary

hey friends! I went to Wellington for the day yesterday. Wellington is the capital of New Zealand (you know, parliament and all that stuff).

Wellington is known for its windy days so we were so lucky to have a beautiful fine day with no wind - though the temperature didn't get above freezing but it didn't stop us adventuring!

As my mum says, I'm the perfect tourist blogger - I took so many photos throughout the day, especially up the top of Mt Victoria at sunset which has the most magical view over the whole city!

The Wellington waterfront is beautiful and is all quite newly built and is very aesthetically pleasing (as you can see from the photos!!). I also loved the city, the streets are very narrow and cute to explore.

One of my favourite places I went to was the Six Barrell Soda Co showroom factory. This is a Wellington company that makes soda syrups and in their showroom you can try any flavour. I tried the raspberry lemon - which was amazing and really pretty!! Their showroom was up this narrow stairway in this old shoe factory building but was a beautiful open and light room - it was quite unexpected! I really recommend checking this out if you are ever in Wellington.

As with any travelling especially through airports, we had the normal chaos - especially when our flight was supposedly leaving 40 minutes early!! (they changed it to 30 minutes late after we were already in a massive panic!!) But having a day trip was really fun - the best part, not needing to unpack when I got home.

calligraphy

You've probably always noticed that I love calligraphy and any handwritten design and have spent so much time perfecting my handwriting for different styles and occasions. I even wrote a post here  about finding your own handwriting style.

Anyway, I've never atually owned a brush/calligraphy pen so all of my handwriting has been done with a one thickness permanent marker or Artline Pen. Plus I've recently been using my new Wacom tablet to do my graphic design elements on my computer and the touch sensitivity is amazing!

So today I thought I would share with you my handwriting tools and how to create calligraphy without a special pen because it's possible and just takes practice!

I don't really have a specific pen that I always use for handwriting - and most of my special handwriting is used online so I use my tablet. I have the biggest selection of pens you've ever seen and we would probably all die before I got through them all.

So these pens are quite general but I use them all for different handwriting and accents.

Ballpoint Pen - I just use a standard slim pen from Kikki.K (only my favourite brand) for any quick or long lengths of handwriting. These pens are really easy to use and your hand won't get sore when writing lots. It doesn't make the nicest marks but it's really dark and is not too thin.

Fine line Pen - This is the inky version of a ball point pen which I just love writing with so much! I'm currently using an Artline 200 0.4 tip but I've used many others such as Staedtler and Stabilo and I recommend them all! I also do many of my pen drawings with a fineline pen. 

In terms of calligraphy they are great for touch ups and adding thinner aspects of the lettering as a thicker pen can't always give the right look for the softer strokes.

Permanent Marker - A thick marker, which in this case I use a Sharpie is the base of any calligraphy as you need a thicker base for any calligraphy

Gel Pen - I don't love gel pens - mainly because I have the worst pen grip and smudge everything! But gel pens are really fine and are good for adding in small details or patching up areas of writing.

Now onto my actual calligraphy tips. To achieve the thin and thick sort of calligraphy you have to think about the natural flow of a pen and what parts you naturally put more pressure on. You'll find that the thicker bits are the downstrokes so when you write out your word, double or triple the thickness of your line with the sharpie and write the thin lines with either the bare sharpie tip or one of the finer pens.

That's it really, it just takes practice but maybe this post will get you started. Oh and when you are perfect at calligraphy, how about you make your own font with it for use on your computer!

You may remember my little shop from a couple of years ago! It's been sitting there not updated for so long that I thought it was time for a revamp!

So here I am today, to let you know that my shop Harri Design Co is officially open for business with a brand new name (you can also find the link in my navigation bar ^^)!!

I'm currently offering some pre made logos and more will be added in the coming weeks. I'm also now crafting up custom logo/header designs. I'm really hoping I can add even more products into this shop including my typography/fonts, more downloadable graphics, blog designs and even some of my photography!

Video / Making Moodboards

It's the holidays and that means more time for blogging!! I've finally got around to making a new video which I hope you will all enjoy as much as I enjoyed making it.

Making Moodboards is a two part video that shows how I made a moodboard on my wall and then in a journal and the different sources and techniques that you can do! I hope this inspires you to create your own moodboard sometime.

felt peg board idea

To be honest, I'm in love with grey felt right now. It's just the most perfect thing and suits my white and blue room perfectly. The grey just completes it! And don't you just love the tones of felt - I could go on forever!

Anyway I decided to make this cute felt peg board. All I did was wrap some felt over a poster board and glued some mini pegs where I wanted them. Easiest DIY ever. If you want something a bit more interchangeable, you can Velcro or even blu-tack things on.

Totally the quickest DIY the world has ever seen but I hope you enjoy - or at least enjoy the pretty photos. It took me literally a week for the lighting to be bright enough after school (thanks no more daylight saving, school and auckland's clouds - much appreciated) so you better enjoy it!

3 colour palettes for your room

Today I have partnered with The Mood Store to show you how to style a room with 3 different colour palettes that I love with their handmade wooden furniture.

The Mood Store is a New Zealand company who specialise in pine wood furniture and other simple but beautiful accessories. In this post I have used the new four poster bed, the retro beside box and some of their design ministry accessories which are all just gorgeous and I want to keep forever!

Sea Green
Blue is always my room colour palette so I have to feature my personal favourite as I always do! I actually used a white duvet for this style but my blue/green pillows brightened the bed. The wooden bedside table had my usual lamp on it as well as my blue accessories and storage box! Don't you just want to jump on that bed and sleep!!

Monochrome
I love monochrome, but if I lived with it all the time I think I would get a bit bored. Still, that doesn't stop me loving to style a black and white theme room. It always looks really together and simple! I love it! My top tip for styling black and white is that using greys really lightens the mood. I've used concrete, grey felt and black and white images to bring this together.

note on journalling

Journals, notebooks, sketchbooks, visual diaries or whatever you call them, are wonderful yet tricky things. First of all you have to find the perfect notebook - for me I've been trying for 16 years and I still don't think I achieved it. As a result of my indecisiveness I have ended up with a towering collection on partially used or unused notebooks, one which is signed by Emily that I must give them to her if they are still unused by 2017 (oh gosh, that's getting close!).

For me, a journal is a place for me to draw, sketch ideas, plan blog posts and collect inspiration in the form of sticking in knick knacks from all over the place. Some people like to diary their thoughts, schedule and travels but I hate writing in journals more than just bullet point notes because after a while my handwriting changes and I can't stand the imperfections!

Currently I have two journals on the go. A Moleskine journal where I've planned some blog posts in the form of drawings and notes as well as paintings and little art pieces. The other is a spiral bound visual diary which is where I collect design works that I love (for my aspiration to become a graphic designer).

These are my only journals for this year and maybe beyond. I'm not going to let myself change halfway through just because one is imperfect like I usually do. Here are some of my favourite pages in the two journals. Maybe this shall inspire you to try a journal for the first or maybe the hundredth time. Sometimes I just make a page that looks pretty that has no purpose but it doesn't mean I don't love it. Just make your journal how you want it to look and I can promise you, it does come together (and if you really hate a page, rip it out!!).

Hello!
I'm pretty sure you all know by now, how addicted I am to decorating my room (again and again!). It's been about a year since I last shared a room tour with you all so it's definitely overdue. In that time I probably should have done at least 3 room tours with the amount of times it's changed but here is the current product. If you want to see the evolution of my room here's room tours 1 and 2.

My biggest edition to my room this year has been my new bedding. I decided that I wanted to have a simpler duvet cover that could be dressed with pretty cushions and changed around more often. This also helped me to style my room without having to take into account my multi coloured duvet!

Here's some close ups of around my bed and my shelf. I love my shelf being above my bed so much (previously it was above my desk) because I can just use it to store all sorts of trinkets and display my favourite things. My favourite books, art and things that have been given to me and are very special. Such as the driftwood with the photo transfer on it.

I try and keep my bedside table tidy and simple because the circle shape is hard to use. I have a placemat on it for some colour and then only my clock and lamp with a plant to spice things up (you've got to have a plant everywhere, right?).

summer visual wall

I don't know why i love seeing people's gallery walls and vision boards as much as I do, but its the truth. I love seeing what inspires other people and they are always just so aesthetically pleasing. When one comes up on Instagram, I get strangely excited and then admire it with envy. Some of my favourites are from Instagrams such as  @freshlypickked, @freshlypressed, @thedesignchaser and @viewsofnow. 

I decided it was about time that I gave my inspiration wall a spruce up. For ages I've had this mesh vision board on the wall but I wanted to go for a bigger more arranged wall for a while. I love how it's turned out, it's just so wonderful to look at - plus I have a little bit (only a little bit) less wall envy now with my one. 

Since my summer holidays have recently come to an end, I have pinned up many Instax photos from the summer period to remind me as I trudge through the days of school again. Along with many other knick knacks and quote cards from assorted places, my wall has come together very nicely. 

So yes, here is my gallery wall.....3 paragraphs of rant later! I hope you may find it as aesthetically pleasing as I find yours! Harri xx

I love a geometric triangle pattern and today I've got you a wallpaper to download in a pattern I put together late last year. I hope you love it as much as I do!

I actually originally made this for school book cover printables so that's coming to you in a couple of weeks in this same design! Let me know if there's another colour palette you would like me to do it in for the covers!

Washi Tape Map

Here's an idea that's is a bit different but can be adopted to anything. There's lots of things around Pinterest of people using washi tape for wall art and I thought I should try one.

I decided to create a rustic outline of my city, Auckland. I did the main harbour and the surroundings which is where I spend most of my time. It's not perfect and most people are like "what is that meant to be" but I love it.

I've actually got some of my old instax and printstagram prints out and added them to places on the map. I plan to continue to add many photos up there and it's kind of become an Auckland Photo Map. I have a bucket list going with my friend this summer and we are taking photos of every adventure, so I'll probably add them to the wall as well.

Wall Dot Guide

Hello!

Today I am partnering up with the lovely people at Happy Moose with their gorgeous wall dots. I absolutely love their dots. You can get any size from 10 x 10 cm to 80 x 80 cm. The best part is that you don't need extra high quality photos - any mobile phone photo works perfectly and they let you know if not!

They aren't permanent as well. They can be moved around at least 50 times and are perfect for rentals. I've styled this post as a guide to what sort of wall dot you should get for yourself and popped them in a nice place for a photo. I'm in love with these things!

BLOGGER

This is a 48 x 28 cm dot which is the perfect size in my opinion. I got this in a old flat lay that I created a while ago which is perfect for any blogger. I placed it over my desk and it brightens it up so much. What I love the most is that you can show off your pretty things without them being all over your desk so your desk can be more minimal.

FOODIE

I think this one is my favourite one out of them all! I took a photo of a salad that my parents had made on a wooden table. This is perfect for any foodie to show off their cooking in their home and I absolutely love it above our stove (Mum didn't exactly think so!). You could put it anywhere, though the kitchen seems like the best place!

NATURE LOVER

This is probably my favourite sunset picture I've ever taken. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw! Sunsets, clouds, grass, plants are perfect to bring the outside in and create a nature lover's home. I paired it above my parent's bed with a plant and some monochrome bedding.

TRAVELLER

Everyone loves to travel and see new places. This gorgeous photo was taken by Emily of Castle Point in New Zealand. It's known for being an extremely windy place which literally blows you off your feet. For anyone who loves travelling, put your favourite travel photos up as a wall dot for when you have to be at home and not travelling. I placed this one in the bathroom because I loved the blues against our marble tiles - doesn't it look excellent as a reflection as well! The dots can be hung in the bathroom but make sure you dry it after it's got wet and I don't suggest putting it in the shower.

OCEAN LOVER

This one is a bit different. I decided to get a much smaller wall dot and use it on my laptop. Because the dots are completely removable they leave no marks and I can transfer it somewhere else if I want to! This is for the ocean lover because that's me and this photo was taken at the marina where I work and I love getting my laptop out and seeing it!

sleep in style

Well after the very popular workspace style post a while back, I've decided to bring the second instalment of sleep in style!

I've got three different bed spaces to show you, that you can adopt to your space and change it up how you like your room to be!

As always, I've listed and linked everything that I can under each photo for you. Let me know if there's anything else I've missed.

For the Minimalist 
I have a very light grey feel for this space. I say this is a minimal style but it also feels soft and beachy. You can see the nice feature of ocean themed polaroids and some rocks I love. Greys work perfectly with wood tones with light greyed colours like I have done with the grey blues.

For the nature lover
Lots of people love incorporating plants and cacti into their room, I love it but am useless at keeping them alive! I have kept this theme very white so that the green pops out and shows off. I used the string of polaroids again but with greener photos and added the wooden stool to break up the white.

For the pink girl
My favourite is always pink and copper. Paired with my handmade vision board, this area is a creative girl's space. Copper clock and copper border on board ties in the wood and pale pink.

style a shelf

Hello!
I am so sorry for my absence the past month...have any of you actually stayed around? If so, thank you for putting up with me.

After my very popular, workspace style post, I thought I should show you some ideas for designing and styling a shelf.

Shelves are very different from desks as you are generally showing or storing things rather than having them for instant access.

For this theme...I have stacking my magazines on my shelf with some items on top. To the right, I have my cables box with my Kikki.K copper clock! Stacking books etc is a great storage option, while spines still look very pretty.


This second style is much more minimalistic and wooden theme. I really needed somewhere to store my cable box so I used it again here and put my old sunnies on top for decoration. I love showing off my Instax printer and my chopping board hahaha behind looks great, I think.
